Casper police officer arrested Friday after ‘criminal incident’/armed standoff

CASPER, Wyoming – An off-duty Casper police officer dealing with a personal crisis was involved in a criminal incident at an apartment complex Thursday night into Friday afternoon, according to a Casper police news release Monday.

No injuries were reported and the officer was lawfully arrested.

The official's name was not mentioned in the press release.

The standoff at the Quail Run Apartments, 3841 E. 15th Street, began around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when police responded to a report of a person having suicidal thoughts, according to a news release from the Natrona County Sheriff's Office.

The residents of this apartment building were immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Several law enforcement agencies set up a security perimeter and there was no danger to the public.

At around 4:35 p.m. on Friday, NCSO spokeswoman Kiera Hett said the situation had been resolved peacefully and without injuries.

Police Chief Keith McPheeters said the officer's actions caused a stir throughout the department and especially among those who worked closely with him.

“We ask that you support each other and our community by respecting his privacy and the integrity of the investigation as we move forward,” McPheeters said.

The Natrona County Sheriff's Office has processed and is investigating the incident in accordance with police department policies and best practices.,
