Off-duty state trooper arrested again for drunk driving

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A Louisiana State Police trooper on leave for a DWI law violation in March was arrested again early Monday morning, Aug. 26, on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.

The Louisiana State Police released the following press release:

This morning, shortly after 1:00 a.m., a patrol officer assigned to Troop A was on patrol and observed a vehicle crossing the divider while traveling south on Interstate 110 in East Baton Rouge Parish. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was identified as 28-year-old Isaiah Gilbert of Hammond. At the time of the arrest, Gilbert was on leave following a separate incident on March 10, 2024, in which he was arrested for DUI (1st offense) and careless driving. Gilbert has been employed by the Louisiana State Police since 2021.

During the DWI investigation this morning, Gilbert was transported to Troop A where he provided a breath sample that was over the legal limit. He was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail and arrested on the following charges: Improper Lane Use, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (2nd Offense), Driving While License Revoked, Simple Criminal Damage to Property, and Open Container.

Gilbert remains on leave pending the seizure of all law enforcement property pending the completion of the criminal and administrative investigation.
