Chambersburg man charged with gun possession after Friday night shooting in borough

August 26, 2024 – A Chambersburg man is charged with illegal possession of a firearm after multiple shots were reportedly fired Friday night near the intersection of Federal and W Loudon Streets in the borough. Samuel Gedeon remains behind bars on $50,000 bail after being charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a non-custodial person. Gedeon remains behind bars in Franklin County.

Chambersburg Police were called to the area near the intersection of W Loudon Street and Federal Street on Chambersburg's west side at approximately 7:35 p.m. on August 23 for reports of shots being fired. Police spoke with residents who allegedly told them and showed them on video that they believed they heard approximately five gunshots. Additionally, police were allegedly told “that this was a common occurrence in this area.”

Officers then spoke with Samuel Gedeon at his nearby home. During that interview, officers discovered an empty shell casing in the backyard. Gedeon was patted down and found not to have a gun on him. However, he allegedly had two in the home that were registered to his wife. According to CPD, additional live ammunition and the guns were found in the home, including an unsecured gun on top of the refrigerator. During questioning, Gedeon allegedly told officers that he “had owned the gun several times since his wife purchased it. Gedeon also stated that he had fired the gun several times in his backyard.”

According to Chambersburg police, Samuel Gedeon was convicted in Florida in 2015 of carrying a concealed firearm, which prohibited him from owning a firearm in the future.

Samuel Gedeon remains behind bars on $50,000 bail.
