Cleveland woman allegedly ran over man with her car and killed him

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Cleveland woman pleaded guilty Monday to killing a man by running him over with her car and then leaving him pinned underneath the vehicle.

Shaniqua Menefee's jury trial was scheduled to begin this morning, but instead she pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault.

Jamale Thompson died on June 25, 2023.

Cleveland police said Thompson left Menefee's home near East 155th Street and Talford Avenue while they were arguing.

Thompson began walking up the street and Menefee followed her in her vehicle, police said.

The couple were still arguing, and near Glendale Avenue and E. 155th Street, Menefee drove onto the lawn of a home and ran over Thompson, according to police.

Thompson was trapped under the vehicle and screamed for help, police said.

Menefee attempted to back her vehicle over Thompson, but the vehicle became stuck.

Thompson succumbed to his injuries before first responders arrived, police said.

Menefee fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody by police and U.S. Marshals on June 29, 2023.

The verdict is scheduled for September 9.
