Conover man arrested after fleeing from police

Scotty Allen Harrington, 36, of Conover, was arrested Saturday evening (August 24) in Alexander County. He faces charges including trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver meth, and fleeing arrest in a motor vehicle. He was also charged with possession of stolen goods (driver's license), driving without a license, and multiple counts of resisting a public officer.

Harrington was arrested after attempting to evade a stop by the Highway Patrol and Sheriff's Office in southern Alexander County. Harrington fled at a high rate of speed on a motorcycle toward Catawba County, where he crashed. After the crash, Harrington attempted to flee on foot but was caught. He was found to be carrying a “significant” amount of illegal substances.

At last report, Harrington was still being held at the Alexander County Detention Center on $200,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in Taylorsville District Court today (August 26).
