Cortez man arrested for making death threats against officials in Colorado and Arizona

DURANGO, Colorado (KKTV) – A man will make his first appearance in federal court in Durango after using two social media accounts to threaten officials in Colorado and Arizona, according to the Justice Department.

On Friday, 45-year-old Teak Brockbank of Cortez was arrested on charges of transmitting interstate threats. If convicted, he could spend up to five years in prison.

The Justice Department said that between September 2021 and August 2022, Brockbank posted messages containing threats against election officials in Colorado and Arizona, state judges and federal police officers.

The Justice Department shared some messages posted by Brockbank:

“Once these people are executed, the others will melt away like snowflakes and turn against each other. … That is the only way. So those of us who have the courage to do what must be done should prepare ourselves for what we all [a]what you're going to do!!!!!! It's time.”

“I could take my gun and put a bullet in that man's head and send him immediately to our Creator to explain himself. I would be entitled to do so!!! Not only entitled, but obligated to the people in my family who fought and gave their lives for the freedom of this country. … What can I do but kill that man myself?”

“ATF, CIA, FBI show up at my house and I shoot them shit without warning!!! Then I call the sheriff!!! After everything those fucking agencies have done, I'm perfectly within my rights to just drop them as soon as they step foot on my property! Right.”

Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri said officers must be able to do their jobs without fear and that the Criminal Division intends to continue to investigate and prosecute anyone who threatens them with violence.
