Mariah Carey shares tragic family news as her mother and sister both die on the same day

Mariah Carey mourns the loss of her mother and sister.
The 55-year-old singer announced on Monday (26.08.24) that her mother Patricia died at the weekend at the age of 87, the same day that her sister Alison (63) died. She described it as a “tragic turn of events”.
She told People: “I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also passed away on the same day. I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away.”
“I am grateful for everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
The “Always Be My Baby” singer did not provide any further details about the events leading up to the deaths and did not comment on the situation at all beyond her initial statement.
Patricia, who divorced the late Alfred Roy Carey in 1973, was an opera singer and singing teacher before the birth of her first child, while Alison has struggled with personal problems throughout her life, including homelessness, and has been estranged from her superstar sibling family for several years.
Meanwhile, Mariah has previously spoken about the complicated relationship she had with her mother, describing it as a “rainbow of emotions” in her memoir.
In her 2020 book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she wrote: “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It was never just black and white – it was a whole rainbow of emotions. Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.”
“A complicated love connects my heart with that of my mother.”
