Man dead after mass accident in Roanoke County

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A man is dead after a multi-vehicle crash at 4500 Challenger Ave on Monday, August 26 before 3:00 p.m.

According to Roanoke County Police, a man driving a Honda Accord was driving east on Challenger Avenue when he crashed into the rear of a 2020 Ford Edge, causing the Ford to collide with a 2002 Buick and a 1998 Toyota Tacoma.

The occupants of the Ford and Buick were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, police said.

Alexander Tuck, 27, of Thaxton, was pronounced dead at hospital. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to police, speed contributed to the accident. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs played a role.

The road was closed for a while but has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
