New Bolivian beetle named after famous Nebraska photographer

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – A new species of beetle named after a famous Nebraska native has been discovered in the forests of Bolivia.

Joel Sartore is an award-winning photographer, graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and founder of the National Geographic Photo Ark.

He has photographed thousands of species around the world.

The National Geographic Society announced Monday that the small brown beetle will be named Sartore's little rhinoceros beetle (Bothynus sartorei).

The beetle was published as a new species last week in the Journal of Insect Biodiversity.
