Om Parvat is located on the way to Kailash Mansarovar from Pithoragarh region of Kumaon Mandal in Uttarakhand. According to reports, Om has disappeared from this Parvat of late. The mountain has become snowless and black, making life difficult for environmental scientists across the country.

Environmentalists and locals blame the rise in global temperatures and construction work in the high Himalayan region. A certain Urmila Sanwal Gunjyal, who was recently visiting her native village Gunji on a visit to Pithoragarh, revealed that she went to Om Parvat on August 16. When she went to Nabhidhang to take photographs, she saw no snow on Om Parvat. The Om sign was missing.

Mount Om is located in the Vyas Valley of Dharchula.

Om Parvat is situated at an altitude of 5,900 metres in the Vyas valley of Dharchula tehsil in Pithoragarh district of Kumaon division. Om Parvat can be seen from Nabhidang, which is on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route. Professor BD Joshi, national president of Indian Environmental Institute Uttarakhand and former head of the Department of Environment and Zoology, Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar, says if the mobility of people in the hill regions of Uttarakhand continues to increase in this way and crowding in the mountains increases in the name of development, pilgrimage and tourism and road network in the mountains continues to be laid haphazardly and tunnels are constructed, then one day the mountains of Uttarakhand will be forever glacierless and Om Parvat will disappear forever.
