Ex-sheriff goes to prison after pleading guilty to corruption – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A former Clark County sheriff faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to several felonies following his arrest on corrupt business practices charges in November.

The change was made Monday morning during a hearing with former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel.

Noel was arrested in November 2023 and charged with 15 crimes, including abuse of office, false employment and obstruction of justice. Officials had previously reported that the crimes occurred both during his time as sheriff and afterward.

Noel was also ordered to pay more than $3 million in restitution to the Utica Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Clark County Sheriff's Office, the Indiana Department of Revenue and the Indiana State Police.

After his arrest, Noel pleaded not guilty.

In February and March, Noel's wife and daughter were arrested and charged with similar crimes, including tax evasion and theft. Their trial is scheduled for October.
