Salisbury man sentenced to 78 months in prison

RUTLAND – A Salisbury man has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a stolen gun.

Scott Clark, 41, was sentenced to 78 months in prison, followed by three years of probation, by U.S. District Judge Mae D'Agostino on Aug. 21, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Clark had previously pleaded guilty to the charges on July 13, 2023.

According to court documents, on September 23, 2022, Clark unlawfully entered a mobile home parked at a campground in Salisbury. Inside the mobile home, Clark found and took possession of a .40 caliber Glock handgun, model G23, belonging to the owner of the mobile home.

A Vermont State Police trooper, responding to complaints that a suspicious person was attempting to break into trailers at the campground, confronted Clark. While Clark was being questioned, he secretly took the Glock from himself and slipped it to his girlfriend, who was standing nearby, then put the Glock in her purse, police officials said. The trooper noticed the Glock in the girlfriend's purse and confiscated the gun.

U.S. Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest praised the joint investigative efforts of the State Police, Middlebury Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
