As someone who wasn't a fan of the first and second seasons of The Mommy Club, I didn't have high hopes for the spin-off series The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice.

After three episodes I'm addicted to the series.

Firstly, apart from The Real Housewives of Durban, there is a lack of reality TV shows that focus on the Indian community, so I hope this series paves the way for more content of a similar nature.

And kudos to POP24 for not playing with stereotypes and capturing the true essence of wealthy mothers who are true powerhouses in their own right.

There are several favourites on the show. Resh Naidoo is at the top of the list. The 45-year-old is married to Prevan Naidoo, the owner of Baking Pan. She radiates warmth and is proud of her children Miashca (18, a second-year student) and Thishae (16, who is in high school).

Looking stunning in her saris and the red dot that is considered a sign of marriage in Hinduism, she shares the spotlight with her twin sister Losh, who, like Resh, is an occupational therapist.

Losh is also very family-oriented. She is married to Naven Naidoo, a renowned orthopedic surgeon in Durban, and has triplets: Dashriya, Daneha and Dayika.

The sisters get along brilliantly and are charismatic and sociable.

Asharia Parsad, a young mother, is also very good-natured. She is an optician, a real daddy's girl and her husband Trivesh treats her like a princess. They love their four-month-old son Veer.

She is also proud of her heritage and looks stunning in her saris.

Other sweet moms in the cast include Abigail Nepaul, 41, a lawyer who has two daughters, Azuri, 8, and Careira, 6, with her lawyer husband. She is also a stepmom to his children. Although she is a very traditional wife, she is all for women empowerment.

Her values are also shared by her close friend on the show, Devina Kowlas, 43, a former teacher who is now in the real estate business. She is married to insurance magnate Lavine Kowlas and is the proud mother of daughter Loniqa, 11, and son Vihaan, 8.

She is introverted, but deals with her unsuccessful pregnancies very lovingly and openly.

The other featured mum is Lenore Goss-Matjie, 45, who talks on the show about her struggles as a fibromyalgia sufferer. She is married to Neville Matjie and has three children: two daughters, Meah, who is studying medicine, and Jiyaana, who is still at school, and a son called Alessandro.

Boy oh boy, is this one sexy mom. As a dance teacher, she has an enviably toned body and is graceful and eloquent.

Her mixed heritage becomes a topic of conversation for one of the cast members, especially after it was revealed that she won the title of Miss India KZN in 1998.

Speaking of stunningly beautiful mothers, Neetasha Singh Bugwandin, 36, a model who recently married her husband, a construction contractor, is the proud stepmother to Sohnia, 24, and Sunar, 18.

As with any reality show, there has to be a common meeting place for the ladies. And Kim Jones' baby shower is one such event. The 33-year-old mother-to-be is beautiful inside and out. She sees the good in everyone.

She is married to Matt Jones, a former rugby player who works as a DJ by night and an entrepreneur by day, and is supported by her mother, a cancer survivor.

With all the positive energy of the cast, there is one who causes unrest from the start: Christina Devraj. At 26, she is the youngest mother in the group.

She claims to have studied law at Howard College, UKZN, but the ladies are not entirely convinced. It is also questionable whether her husband Nate, a newly qualified doctor, is a general practitioner or a specialist.

The bottom line is that the mother of 15-month-old Jordan has no social skills whatsoever.

Aside from being unable to properly assess the mood in the room, she often speaks before she thinks. Her tendency to put her foot in it often gets her into trouble, and the turning point is during Lenore's special event in episode three.

Christina's ageist and racist comments turn a joyful and emotional moment into an uncomfortable one.

Of course, it is still too early, cliques have yet to form and the true face of the cast has yet to emerge.

However, looking at the episodes so far, it's going to be an entertaining show. It's such a positive perspective of a community that isn't often shown on TV shows.

And the sugar and spice content is also present.
