Bryan man sentenced to 12 years in prison for violent crime

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Brazos County District Attorney's Office announced that a Bryan man accused of two violent crimes has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.

Rickey Hernandez, 34, was first arrested in February 2022 after stabbing two people outside a bar in College Station, according to prosecutors. Two months later, Hernandez attacked a 10-year-old child because she refused to hug him.

At the time, Hernandez was reportedly drunk.

He was sentenced to twelve years in prison for the stabbing and ten years for the attack on the child.

These sentences will be served concurrently, meaning he will spend a maximum of 12 years behind bars. The prosecution announced that he would be released on probation due to his lack of prior convictions.

The defendant repeatedly responded with violence toward individuals who posed no threat to him. This punishment sends the message that this behavior will not be tolerated in Brazos County.”said Assistant District Attorneys Jessica Escue and Gretchen Helmuth.
