Bradford police officer wants assault case to be heard elsewhere

The trial of a police officer accused of attacking a citizen while on duty will be held in a city other than his place of work, a court has learned.

Denis Kadric, who works for West Yorkshire Police in Bradford, denies causing actual bodily harm on Heidelberg Road on January 26.

On Tuesday, Bradford Crown Court was told that the 32-year-old had worked as a city centre operations manager for “several years” and that his lawyers had applied to have his trial moved to a location outside the court's jurisdiction.

Judge Kirstie Watson said it was “likely” the case would be referred to another court but did not set a new date for the hearing.

During the brief hearing, it was announced that Mr Kadric's defence team would likely call an expert witness on the use of force to testify in his favour.

The trial is expected to last five days.

Mr Kadric, of Wolley Avenue, New Farnley, Leeds, was granted conditional bail.

He was suspended from duty by the police.
