Norwich man allegedly shot a gun while drunk from his apartment complex

NORWICH, Connecticut (WTNH) – A Norwich man was arrested Monday after allegedly firing a gun multiple times while drunk at his apartment complex.

On Monday around 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to 102 Stonington Road after receiving several calls from residents reporting a shooting inside or around the residence.

On site, officers immediately heard six shots. Due to the possible shooting, a shelter warning was issued to residents and they asked for mutual assistance to secure the crime scene and find the suspect.

Evidence of the shooting was found in the rear of the building, where officers also encountered an apparently intoxicated man who was later identified as the shooter.

Brian Burgess was arrested and the house was searched for possible victims. According to police, no one was injured.

Burgess was charged with disturbing the peace, unlawful discharge of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment and carrying a firearm while intoxicated.

He was held on $150,000 bail pending his arraignment in Norwich Superior Court on August 27.

Connecticut State Police, Montville Police, Ledyard Police and Groton Town Police assisted Norwich Police at the scene of the incident.
