Speaking of femmes fatales: Why the crime party is captivating young people

As soon as someone was murdered, he had to leave the game (the victims were announced every morning at breakfast on the deck – very The traitors). Human Cluedo usually continues until everyone except the one victorious, untouchable murderer is killed. But with this Mustique gang, there was a surprise: Lottie's sister Yum Yum and Otto Hindmarch Seymour, son of Anya Hindmarch, teamed up and won the game together. But then again, grins Lottie, “my sister was basically impossible to kill since she had to be murdered with hot sauce on the bridge [the captain’s domain]which simply wouldn't happen'.

While the human Cluedo relies on cunning, Alfie Maxwell's annual murder mystery parties are about detailed stories with complicated plots and characters. “I've always taken it very seriously and tried to make it a full, theatrical experience,” says the society cabaret singer. This year, the antics began after dinner, when she presented guests with a diagram of the suspects (which included her cousin India Harmsworth Yeates, Tatler Cover photographer Ahmed Hassan and Evie Booth-Clibborn), which leads to a picture of Alfie with the caption: “In loving memory of Alfreda Rose Maxwell – beloved mother and socialite.”

Guests, including Maximilian Hurd and Aimée Gillingwater, spent the evening deciphering the clues – which eventually revealed MY WIG. After cracking the code, seductive actor-model Madeleine Mills reached under Alfie's peroxide-soaked locks – as she lay on the floor like a dead virgin – and found a picture of the killer: Freddie Foulkes, the bon vivant and son of historian Nicholas Foulkes. (Did someone say “murder, most Foulkes”?) With the mystery solved, everyone forgave Freddie and flocked to the “arctic hut” in the estate's garden. “We sat in a circle, shouting and laughing by the fire and drinking late into the night,” says Alfie.
