Drowning incident in Minnesota under investigation

Pine River, MN (MinnesotaNow) – Authorities are investigating the drowning accident of a 54-year-old man in the Pine River.

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk confirmed that the incident was reported Monday evening (August 26) at 5:31 p.m. when the Cass County Sheriff's Office received a call about a missing adult male in the town of Pine River.

According to Pine River police, the man had left a residence and gone swimming in the Pine River, but did not return.

Officials and rescue workers immediately began searching the area. After almost two hours, the dead victim was found in the river at 7:13 p.m.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed and next of kin have yet to be notified.

The Ramsey County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Pine River Police and Fire Departments assisted the Cass County Sheriff's Office at the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances of the drowning is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available.
