Keanu Reeves says this about death. Pastor responds with gospel message.

Pastor Greg Laurie shared his thoughts on Instagram about a statement made by actor Keanu Reeves on the subject of death.

“Keanu Reeves is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood,” Laurie began. “Some estimate his net worth to be over $300 million with films like the MATRIX series or the JOHN WICK series. But recently he was interviewed and had some interesting thoughts on the subject that many people don't want to talk about.”

Although most people don't talk about this topic, everyone certainly thinks about it at some point.

“I'm 59, so I think about death all the time,” Reeves said in the clip. “I mean, I think thinking about death is good. Hopefully it raises awareness of an appreciation for the breath we have and the relationships we may have.”

Laurie continued, “You know, the death statistics are pretty impressive. Every human being is going to die. So the real question is not whether we are going to die, but rather when we are going to die. I think the even more important question is what happens beyond the grave.”

The inspiration of JESUS REVOLUTION mentioned that Reeves said in an interview back in 2005 that he would “work” to get to heaven.

“So you have the hope of heaven,” Laurie explained. “You don't have to work for it; the work was already done by Jesus Christ when he died on the cross and shed his blood for all our sins and said, 'It is finished.' There's nothing I can do to earn salvation. It's a gift from God that he offers to everyone out there for free. The really big issue with death is what happens after the grave. What happens in the afterlife?”

Laurie explained that there is a heaven and a hell and gave the actor a personal message.

“Jesus loves you. He has a plan for you. I've read a number of articles about how generous and kind and how down to earth Keanu Reeves is, and I think that's fantastic, but the most important thing is that you come to Christ and say, 'Lord, I know I'm a sinner, and I know you're the Savior, and I choose to believe in you.' That doesn't just apply to Keanu Reeves, that applies to everyone.”

Reeves has spoken about his spirituality in the past. “I'm not saying I'm an atheist; I'm not saying I'm not a believer. I really don't know,” he said in 2019. He had previously said he was a “respectful Buddhist.”

While the actor looks for salvation outside of Christ, Romans 10:9 states, “For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

If you aren't sure where you will be in the afterlife, the Bible gives us clear instructions on how to know for sure. All you have to do is confess your sins and trust in a God who loves you. And you can make that decision today.

Pray for Reeves and his salvation as he ponders what comes after this life.

Movieguide® previously reported on Reeves:

In TOY STORY 4, Keanu Reeves joins the cast as Duke Kaboom, a daredevil motorcycle stuntman.

The Hollywood veteran says the film has a special place in his heart.

“There is healing throughout the film, which is often the case in TOY STORY,” Reeves tells Movieguide®.

“The friendships, the camaraderie, the adventure, the task heals. There are many teachable moments, but also the character and the love heal the wound,” said Reeves.
