Two Delta employees killed in Georgia maintenance facility, third person injured

Two employees were killed and another person injured at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility in Georgia early Tuesday morning, the company said.

The incident occurred at a Delta TechOps maintenance facility near Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport.

There were few official details about the fatal incident, although sources told FOX 5 Atlanta that a tire blew while he was being taken out of a plane. Information about the injured person was not immediately released.

Delta confirmed the incident in a statement to news agencies and said the airline is working with local authorities to conduct a full investigation and find out how the incident occurred.

“The Delta family is deeply saddened by the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility (TOC 3),” the statement said. “We have pledged our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”

Atlanta Mayor Andrew Dickens expressed his condolences to the families of the Delta workers and confirmed that investigative teams are continuing to work on site.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased Delta employees,” Dickens wrote on social media. “My thoughts are also with those injured and I hope for their speedy and full recovery.”
