BROOKLYN, NY — A former United States Bureau of Prisons officer pleaded guilty today to smuggling cell phone chargers into the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said former police officer Fabienne Osias faces up to a year in prison.

“The defendant abused her position of trust to smuggle cell phone chargers into the Metropolitan Detention Center,” Peace said.

According to court documents, Osias, 40, attempted to bring five USB charging cubes and nine cables to the jail on February 28, 2023. She resigned from her post last Friday.

“Smuggled cell phones enable federal prisoners to continue committing crimes while incarcerated at the MDC, endangering both the prison population and society as a whole. This office will vigorously investigate and prosecute cases of public corruption at all levels in the MDC,” Peace said.
