Chico man charged with attempted murder and intent to rape

A report of a stabbing in the Magalia neighborhood led to the arrest of a Chico man on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with intent to rape.

According to a press release from the Butte County Sheriff's Office, Samuel Dickenson, 31, of Chico, called police Monday afternoon to report that he had recently been involved in a stabbing incident.

BCSO officers, detectives and Chico police officers responded and made contact with Dickenson. During their investigation, they allegedly found evidence that Dickenson was previously acquainted with some of the people who lived at the victim's home in Magalia. According to the release, detectives said Dickenson knew a child lived at the home.

Based on the investigation, investigators believe Dickenson came to the residence with the intent to abduct and sexually abuse a child, the press release states. When Dickenson arrived at the residence, he made contact with two adults. According to BCSO, Dickenson immediately stabbed one of the adults. Dickenson was involved in an altercation with the second adult before leaving the residence.

Dickenson was booked into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with intent to commit rape.

Nurses demonstrate in Enloe

Registered nurses at Enloe Medical Center will hold an informational vigil on Wednesday, according to a press release from the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United.

The pickets will be near the main entrance from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The press release said the goal of the informational demonstration was to raise awareness of patient safety issues, including recruiting and retaining experienced nurses, the need for occupational injury protection and preparedness for natural disasters.
