Boss Fight Books reveals untitled Goose Game chronicle

Boss Fight Books is currently funding its seventh series of “documentary-style” books about video games on Kickstarter, and as a nice surprise, the latest reveal will sound very familiar to fans of Australian games. As announced, one of the upcoming books to be published by Boss Fight is Goose Game without titleby award-winning Australian writer and regular contributor to GamesHubJames O’Connor.

O'Connor has a long history of writing for and about video games, with his critical work GamesHub, IGN, GameSpot, Edge, Hyper, And PC PowerPlay.

In his historical discussion of Goose Game without titleO'Connor will trace the game's development “before the critical acclaim, the celebrity tweets, the major awards, the memes, the fan art and the legion of gamers,” when it was simply a fun idea developed by a group of friends from Melbourne, Australia.

“Through interviews with the creators and their co-conspirators, journalist and developer James O'Connor tells the story of how this indie mega-hit came about, revealing how the team succeeded by developing their friendship into an artistic practice, contributing to the wider Australian game development scene, trusting their own good taste, and never giving their game a name,” the book's description reads.

Interview participants include all four of House House's lead developers – Nico Disseldorp, Jake Strasser, Michael McMaster and Stuart Gillespie-Cook – as well as composer Dan Golding, artist Kalonica Quigley, programmer Cherie Davidson and more.

O'Connor has expressed his great joy at publishing this chronicle – his first book – and finally telling the in-depth story of one of Australia's most successful independently developed games.

“My original proposal for this book was to Goose Game without title as a title released at the end of a very interesting and transformative decade of Australian game development, and shows how the indie boom that took place in the local scene culminated in a huge hit,” said O'Connor GamesHub.

“I was allowed to tell this story, but the more I talked to people about it, Goose Game without title – including the game's developers – the more I realized I had struck gold. The story of how this game came to be is as entertaining as the game itself. As a critic and game developer myself, writing this book was a hugely invigorating experience – I hope people will have the same feelings when reading it.”

You can purchase a digital or physical copy of Goose Game without title by James O'Connor now on Kickstarter, although it's worth noting that the book will still be available for purchase after this Kickstarter closes.
