Family of woman killed in accident on I-65 asks public for help

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The family of a Woman killed was involved in a freak traffic accident is looking for answers. She died when a wrench flew through the windshield of the car she was driving on I-65.

Earlie Harris’ family is still trying to come to terms with her tragic death.

“She was the backbone. She was the glue that held everything together. I mean, through the ups and downs, she was always there,” said Cedric Harris.

Harris was driving her son, Cedric, to work. They were driving south on I-65 when a large wrench came through the windshield, striking and killing Harris.

“Suddenly something flew through the air, through the window. I ducked and looked up. My mother was bleeding and I drove off the highway,” he said.

The Harris family still doesn't know exactly where the wrench came from. They believe it came from a truck traveling north on I-65. They are working with the law firm Beasley Allen to find the driver of the vehicle the wrench came from.

“This is something that can't be missed. Someone who was behind the object and had a lot of traffic saw it fall and bounce into the road,” said attorney LaBarron Boone. “It didn't hit them and maybe they just kept walking, but it killed Ms. Earlie Harris, an incredible servant.”

The Harris family just wants answers. They say Earlie Harris was a loving mother and grandmother.

The law firm Beasley Allen is offering a $1,000 reward for information that uncovers the driver's identity.

The accident occurred on August 8th at approximately 9 a.m. Police are still investigating. If you can help with the investigation, please contact police or the Beasley Allen Law Firm.
