Tooele woman arrested on suspicion of serious child abuse

SALT LAKE CITY — A 35-year-old mother from Tooele was arrested Monday on suspicion of abusing a child in her care.

Ashley Dawn Solomon, 35, was arrested Monday on child abuse charges, including reckless endangerment, according to a police affidavit.

According to the affidavit, sheriff's deputies interviewed a victim on Monday and alleged that Solomon drank “several alcoholic beverages,” later dragged her victim up the stairs, threw her to the floor in a bedroom and sat on the victim's chest, covering her mouth to render her “unconscious.”

Officers also noticed a bite mark on the victim's chest that was believed to have been caused by a human. This finding was confirmed by a doctor after questioning, according to the document.

Later in the document, the victim claims that Solomon drove her to her parent's house while drunk and stated that Solomon's driving was “shaky.”

According to the document, Solomon has custody of the victim and if Solomon is released, the victim would be returned to her. The document also states that during a police interview, Solomon admitted to restraining the victim and tying his arms.

Solomon was booked into the Tooele County Jail on Monday and charged with one count each of aggravated child abuse (a second-degree felony) and reckless endangerment (a Class A misdemeanor).
