Madison County Deputy Vice President fired after internal investigation

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – A Madison County sheriff's deputy has been fired following an internal investigation into a July incident, Sheriff Todd Volk confirmed Monday.

Joe Prather, the vice chairman, was fired on July 30 after an internal review found his actions did not meet office standards, Volk said.

The internal investigation stemmed from an incident involving Prather, but the sheriff would not say what it was. However, Volk said the Madison County Sheriff's Office asked the NSP to investigate the incident to avoid any conflict of interest.

The Nebraska State Patrol reported that troopers were called to a domestic dispute in rural Madison County, south of Norfolk, at 10:25 p.m. on July 7. The incident involved two women – one of whom is a county corrections officer and is currently on leave – and a man.

Although no arrests were made at the time, the State Patrol opened an investigation that has since been forwarded to a special prosecutor to review charges. Volk said it is unlikely that charges will be filed against Prather.
