Workers say on Labor Day that inflation is wiping out the American dream and destroying hard work

People are depressed about the economic situation ahead of Labor Day and the final stretch of the election, believing that inflation under the Biden-Harris administration has destroyed their dreams.

In some new surveys, respondents said that their dream of owning a home had been shattered by rising prices and that inflation had wiped out most of their daily hard work.

A WalletHub survey to Secrets said on Wednesday: “74% of people believe inflation is undoing their hard work.”

While most believe they are better off than they were on Labor Day 2023, they also seem to feel they are taking steps backwards and need to work harder.

Consider that two in three respondents said inflation affects their Labor Day plans, and 93% believe they need a raise to make ends meet.

The poll highlighted the central issue of the upcoming election: an issue that former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are at odds over.

This survey was supplemented by another survey by Wall Street Journal and NORC, which says that only 10% believe that buying a home, the key to the American dream, is possible because of the cost.

Cygnal pollster Brent Buchanan wrote in an email: “Americans are feeling the pressure of inflation not only in the housing market, but also in energy, food and insurance. Most are suffering and see no way out. This is the core issue of the 2024 election. If Trump can keep the pressure on Harris and build on the performance of Biden and Harris over the last 3.5 years, he can maintain his lead with swing voters.”
