Suspect accused of opening fire on two Lakeland police officers arrested in Tampa

Two Lakeland police officers are breathing a sigh of relief after they say a man opened fire on them and riddled their vehicle with bullets on Tuesday evening.

According to Lakeland Police, two detectives were conducting surveillance in the area of ​​1100 Atlantic Avenue when a known suspect shot at their vehicle multiple times.

The authority said the man “clearly tried to kill the two police officers inside.”

The police officers were not injured in the shooting, but their vehicle was hit several times, according to LPD.

Police say investigators knew the suspect, identified as Arthur Jared William. He was arrested early Wednesday morning near Tampa.

Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor is expected to provide an update at 2 p.m.
