Insider: Bears snap up ex-Packers receiver after release

A former member of the Green Bay Packers has been unavailable on the open market for far too long.

The Packers had to cut their roster to 53 players on Tuesday and one of them was receiver Samori Toure. The third-year receiver tried to earn a spot on the Packers' active roster but didn't make the cut.

He was not available on the open market for long, however, as he is reportedly set to sign with the Chicago Bears' practice squad, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

“A team move within the division: Former Packers WR Samori Toure is signing with the Bears' practice squad, according to a source,” Schefter said.

It's unclear what role Toure will play with the Bears, but he will likely be an add-on. It's unclear if he'll end up spending much time on the active roster at all, as Chicago is very deep at the receiver position.

The Bears are currently considering DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze as the team's receivers. Toure is likely injury insurance for the Bears and will only be used in Chicago if one shows up.

He spent the first two seasons of his career with the Packers, recording 13 receptions and one touchdown in 22 games played. There are now less than two weeks until the start of the 2024 National Football League regular season. Hopefully Toure can shine on the practice squad and get a chance at some point.
