Famous Nigerian music video director laments failed kidney transplant

Famous Nigerian music video director Thankgod Omori, better known as TG Omori, lamented a failed kidney transplant at a Lagos hospital.

The award-winning filmmaker publicly shared details of his battle with kidney disease in a series of social media posts on Wednesday.

TG Omori, known for filming some of Asake's outstanding videos, announced that he had received a kidney donation and asked for prayers for a speedy recovery.

The 29-year-old wrote: “Yesterday my only brother gave me one of his kidneys so that I can live again.”

“One year after kidney failure, I had an unsuccessful transplant at St. Nicolas Lagos. Pray for me.”

In a series of Instastory posts, the music video director shared images of himself lying in a hospital bed with tears streaming down his face.

He also asked Nigerians to pray for him and revealed that he had undergone three operations.

TG Omori, known for his low-key life, also revealed that his kidneys failed over a year ago.

After his PostsNigerians dug up a tweet from 2023 in which he revealed how counterfeit drinks ruined his Health.

“It's all fun and games but the fake drinks have kept me in hospital most of this year,” he tweeted.

In 2023, NAFDAC raised the alarm over the proliferation of fake and adulterated beverages in Nigeria, adding that the toxins contained in fake beverages can cause inflammation and scarring of the liver, resulting in liver damage. They can also cause kidney damage by increasing the risk of kidney stones, leading to kidney failure.

TG Omori is not the first Nigerian star to have a failed kidney transplant.

Nigerian media personality Emma Ugolee was diagnosed with stage five kidney failure in 2011. However, after over 100 surgeries and procedures during his 10-year battle with kidney failure, he had a successful kidney transplant in 2012.

Babatunde Okungbowa, a Nigerian singer known as OJB Jezreel or OJB, suffered from kidney disease and passed away in 2016, three years after a successful surgery in India.

Rapper Eedris Abdulkareem most recently made his kidney disease public in July 2022, and a month later the singer successfully underwent a kidney transplant.
