In a series of tragic incidents over the past few days, at least five people have been killed and one person injured due to accidents related to the ongoing floods and the power sector in Gomati district of Tripura.

Collapse of a power pole claims the life of a worker

Raju Debnath, a resident of Doodh Puskuni area in Udaipur, died in a tragic accident while trying to repair a power line.

Debnath was working on an electricity pole in Gorji Tilani area of ​​Udaipur sub-district when the pole unexpectedly fell and he fell to the ground.

Local residents immediately called for help and Udaipur firefighters rushed him to Gomati District Hospital. Despite their efforts, the attending doctor on arrival pronounced Debnath dead.

Fatal electric shock in flood-hit Udaipur

In another tragic incident in Udaipur, a young man died and another was seriously injured when a bamboo pole used to stabilize a boat came in contact with a live wire. The dead man was identified as 22-year-old Mofazzal Hossain, son of Moynal Hossain, and the injured man as 20-year-old Arif Hossain, son of Idris Mia.

Both the victims were from Fakir Bari, West Khilpara, Ward 4 in Udaipur district. The incident occurred when they were returning home by boat from a relief camp for flood victims.

Local residents have expressed concern about exposed power lines, which pose a major hazard in flooded areas.

Three lives lost in Amarpur due to floods

According to the Amarpur sub-district administration, at least three people died in the sub-district administration of Gomati district due to the ongoing floods.

The victims have been identified as Monoranjan Pal (70), Pradeep Jamatia (28) and Sushil Das (45). These tragic deaths underline the increasing severity of the flood situation in the region.

Immediate help announced

In response to the deaths of Pal, Jamatia and Das, the government announced an immediate relief package of Rs 20,000 crore for the families of the three deceased.

Current flood status in Amarpur

Anupam Chakraborty, the sub-district magistrate of Amarpur, said the water level of the Gomati river is now gradually returning to normal. People are also returning to their homes.

The SDM told the media that a total of 73 relief camps were opened in the settlement during the floods, however, 31 camps are still operational while the others have been closed as people have returned home.
