Regulatory agency pushes forward plans for new prison in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Mississippi (WCBI) – The Lee County Board of Supervisors has voted to move forward with plans for a new jail and justice center.

The 4-1 vote followed two public meetings on potential plans for the new justice complex. Pryor Morrow Architects will provide the board with monthly specific plans for the complex, which will include a more than 500-bed jail, office space, a morgue and a new kitchen.

Pryor Morrow will design the facility, while Century Construction will advise on the construction process. Board Chairman Wesley Webb said the process is in its early stages and it is premature to provide a timeline for construction.

Fourth District Supervisor Tommie Lee Ivy was the only one to vote against plans to move forward with the project.
