Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's divorce judge has a surprise connection to one of her famous exes – but insists there is no conflict of interest

The judge overseeing the divorce proceedings between A-listers Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck has previous ties to both stars as well as one of their famous ex-boyfriends.

The 55-year-old singer filed for divorce from the 52-year-old actor in Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 20 after months of speculation about the high-profile relationship. Judge Bradley S. Phillips was appointed to oversee the case.

Phillips has previous relationships with both Affleck and Lopez's ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez, TMZ reported Wednesday after reviewing court documents.

Phillips' son-in-law Strand Conover, a partner at the WME agency, has worked as an agent for both the Oscar-winning Boston native and the 49-year-old former New York Yankees slugger. Conover works directly with Affleck on the team, the outlet reported.

Phillips “ignored concerns about a potential conflict of interest” in overseeing the legal proceedings, the outlet reported.

The judge said in court documents that Conover had met Lopez in the past through his work with Affleck and Rodriguez, as he served as an agent for the brand partnerships for Rodriguez, according to the outlet.

Rodriguez, one of the top five home run hitters of all time with 696 during his 22-year MLB career, has worked in the media and broadcasting industry since retiring in 2016.

Conover never directly represented Lopez, the outlet reported.

Phillips said in court documents that his ties to either party would not affect “his ability to be fair and impartial” and that he has not and will not discuss the divorce with Conover.

Lopez's filing for divorce on August 20 came after months of speculation surrounding the relationship between the popular singer and actress and the actor and director, whose relationship problems have dominated Hollywood headlines in recent months.

In court documents, Lopez said she was waiving spousal support and had asked the court not to award Affleck any support as well, the outlet said.

There was no prenuptial agreement, insiders told Dailymail.com, a circumstance that could result in their income being classified as community property.

Lopez filed the documents on August 20, 2022, the second anniversary of their wedding, at Affleck's estate outside Savannah, Georgia.

Lopez and Rodriguez dated since early 2017, got engaged in 2019, and split in 2021. Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance to great acclaim in 2021, nearly 17 years after they called off their original engagement and postponed their wedding in September 2003. They split in January 2004 but remained on good terms.

In April 2021, reports surfaced that the musician and the Oscar-winning director were getting back together following Lopez's split from Rodriguez. The couple confirmed their relationship on Instagram in July of this year and returned to the red carpet at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.

In April 2022, Lopez confirmed her engagement to Affleck, and on July 16, 2022, they tied the knot at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas.

“Ultimately, it was the most beautiful wedding we could have imagined,” Lopez said in her July 17, 2022 newsletter On the JLo. “One we dreamed of a long time ago and that (in the eyes of the state, Las Vegas, a pink convertible and each other) has finally come true.”

The couple re-tied their wedding vows on August 20, 2022, at Affleck's estate outside Savannah, Georgia, two years to the day before Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday.

In attendance were Matt Damon, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes and agent Patrick Whitesell. Podcaster and life coach Jay Shetty hosted the event.

Lopez is the mother of 16-year-old twins Max and Emme from her marriage to Marc Anthony, which lasted from 2004 to 2014.

Affleck, who was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018, has three children with the “Alias” actress – 18-year-old Violet, 15-year-old Fin and 12-year-old Samuel.
