Police: Three children injured in accident on Southern State in Franklin Square

Three children riding in a BMW were injured Wednesday when the vehicle left the Southern State Parkway in Franklin Square and struck a line of trees, New York State Police said.

According to state police, her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

At around 1:38 p.m., the vehicle with five children inside was traveling west on the highway near Exit 15 when it crashed, state police said.

One of the injured children was flown to a hospital by helicopter, while the other two victims were transported by ambulance, police said.

Two other children in the vehicle and the driver were uninjured, police said.

The ages of the children and the adult driver were not immediately known on Wednesday evening.

Authorities said no criminal offenses were expected and the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
