Swedish prosecutors confirmed earlier this month The remains found in the wreckage of the car were identified as those of the two Britons.

According to the Swedish public prosecutor's office, investigations are ongoing in both the UK and Sweden.

A statement said: “The public prosecutor has today arrested a person on reasonable suspicion of aiding and abetting the murder of two British citizens who were found dead in a burnt-out car in Malmö on 14 July this year.

“There will now be questioning, both with the suspect and with other people.”

Magnus Pettersson, head of the preliminary investigation, said the prosecutor had until Sunday to decide whether the suspect should remain in custody or not.

“The hardest thing is to deal with it”

A friend said the two Britons were “role models” in their communities.

Mr Abdulrazak had married in recent months, according to the friend, while Mr Cifuentes had a wife and two children, aged eight and three.

The two were business partners in what the friend described as “their dream job,” reportedly at travel company Empire Holidays.
