Falls Twp. man arrested in connection with July 4 murder

A Falls Township man was arrested by authorities in connection with a fatal shooting in Trenton on Independence Day.

Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa Hilton and Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson said in a statement that charges including premeditated murder, attempted murder and several weapons offenses will be filed against Rashawn Ford, 37, of the Morrisville section of Falls Township, following an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Unit and Trenton Police.

The arrest took place Wednesday morning at a hotel on Lincoln Highway in Bensalem Township.

Local police, along with the U.S. Marshals Service's New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service's Philadelphia office, made the arrest without incident.

Amir Williams, 32, of Trenton, was killed in the July 4 shooting.

City police said they were called to the 800 block of Stuyvesant Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on the holiday for a shooting.

Arriving officers found Williams with gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Williams later succumbed to his injuries at Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

A second victim, an adult female, came to the emergency room at Trenton Hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the hip.

Prosecutors are expected to request Ford's pretrial detention.

The investigation was ongoing as of Wednesday and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
