UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones insists he does not have to fight Tom Aspinall.

Jones is expected to make his first title defense against Stipe Miocic this November in New York. Jones has not competed since winning the Francis Ngannou-vacated belt via a quick submission of Ciryl Gane in March 2023, leaving fans frustrated with his inactivity.

Jones' inactivity is not voluntary, however. He was scheduled to face Miocic at UFC 295 last November, but pulled out due to injury. In the meantime, Aspinall won the interim title with a first-round KO of Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 and even defended his interim title with another KO of Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304.

Jones still refuses to fight Aspinall if he gets past Miocic. He took some time to answer questions from fans about “X” and made it clear how unnecessary he thinks a fight with Aspinall is.
