Museum on JK history and Army contribution opens in Gulmarg – The Week

Srinagar, Aug 31 (PTI) – Jammu and Kashmir's famous ski resort of Gulmarg now boasts a new tourist attraction with the opening of a unique museum showcasing the rich history and heritage of the union territory and the role of the army in the security and development of the valley.
The Gulmarg Army Museum ‘Gul-A-Seum’ was inaugurated by Army Commander, Northern Command, Lt. General MV Suchindra Kumar on Saturday, a Srinagar-based defence spokesman said in a statement.
The museum is an initiative to highlight the rich history and heritage of Kashmir and the role of the Indian Army in improving the security and development of the Kashmir Valley, the spokesman said.
The museum was conceived and built by the Dagger Division and the Himalayan Brigade of the Army. The Army Museum showcases the bravery, sacrifice and unwavering spirit of the Indian Armed Forces in building the nation, he said.
The state-of-the-art facility will serve to showcase the Army's pivotal role in various war efforts, its contribution to national development and the rich cultural diversity of Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
The museum will add another colorful element to the beauty of Gulmarg and provide an opportunity to tourists visiting the resort to learn about the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir, the spokesman said.
The museum has an extensive collection of artifacts, documents and interactive exhibits that enable visitors to explore the cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the region's unique traditions, art and historical milestones, as well as the Army's commitment to nation-building in the region.
