Gahlot checks Tihar's condition

New Delhi: Home Minister Kailash Gahlot visited on Saturday Tihar Jail to assess the living conditions of InmatesEmployee welfare and general facilities provided by Government of National Capital Territory (GNCT) of Delhi.
After his visit, Gahlot said: “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi government is determined to Prison reformOur visit to Tihar Jail is another step towards improving prison conditions and ensuring that inmates are provided with the necessary means to improve themselves.” He added, “We believe that every human being has the potential to improve and it is our responsibility to provide them with the necessary means to do so. I am confident that with the combined efforts of our government, prison authorities and citizens, we can create a fairer and more equitable society.”
The minister stressed that the Kejriwal government will take positive measures in the lives of prisoners, including skill development, healthcare initiatives and programmes focusing on psychological support, education and social reintegration. The ultimate aim is to transform Delhi's central prisons from penal institutions into rehabilitative and reformatory institutions, he said.
Gahlot expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and assured that the government will continue to give top priority to the welfare of inmates and staff in all future initiatives.
