Max’s “The Fight Rages On” renewed for season 2

City of God: The battle rages on has been renewed for season 2 at HBO Latino and Max.

The news comes just days after the series debuted with the first episode of season one on August 25. New episodes will continue to air weekly on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The second episode (of six total) will air on September 1.

According to the official description, the series “follows the characters 20 years after the events of the famous film through the lens of Wilson (Rocket), who returns to the community when the release of a young drug dealer from prison lands City of God in trouble again. The residents find themselves trapped between drug dealers, militias and government agencies. However, their desire to break this cycle leads the community to unite and confront their oppressors.”

The main role in the series is played by Alexandre Rodrigues, who reprises his role as Wilson from the original. City of God The 2002 film is based on the novel of the same name by Paulo Lins.

Many other actors from the film are also returning for the series. The cast includes Thiago Martins, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Wayne LeGette, Marcos Palmeira, Andréia Horta and Kiko Marques.

City of God: The battle rages on was written by Maíra Oliveira, Patricia Andrade and Lins.

The film is produced by Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Fernando Meirelles on behalf of O2 Filmes, co-producers are Cris Abu and Gustavo Gontijo.

Bruno Costa serves as episode director alongside co-director Thatiane Almeida. Aly Muritiba also directs.

Mariano Cesar, Anouk Aaron and Vanessa Miranda are executive producers on behalf of Warner Bros. Discovery.
