Man shot dead in Kolkata New Town, one arrested
A man was shot dead by two motorcyclists in New Town, Kolkata. The incident took place near Ram Mandir when the victim was at a tea stall. He was declared dead at the hospital. Police have arrested one person and said the motive was a possible business rivalry.

NEW DELHI: A man was shot dead by two motorcyclists armed men on Saturday evening in New City area on the eastern outskirts of Kolkata, police said. The shooting occurred near a Tea stand near Ram Mandir, and the victim was arrested on arrival at Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. Initial investigations indicate that the murder was the result of a Business rivalry.
Police said the incident occurred when the man was standing at a tea stall and two assailants approached him and shot at him. “One person has been arrested for allegedly being involved in the murder. Investigations are on. Prima facie, the murder was due to a business rivalry,” an official said.
The identity of the deceased has yet to be established. Locals claim that he was involved in the coal and brick trade.
In response to the incident West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar raised concerns about law and order in the state. “Is this West Bengal or mini Pakistan? A person was brutally shot dead at point blank range near Ram Temple Island in New Town. Despite the audacity of the crime, the killers are still at large,” he posted on X.
