Outrage over Emma Coronel, the beauty queen and wife of notorious Mexican drug lord El Chapo, is attempting an MTV-style comeback.

Welcome to Extreme Makeover: Cartel Edition.

The wife of notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzman Loera recently resurfaced in a music video in which she wears several low-cut outfits.

In an effort to burnish her cartel image, 35-year-old former beauty queen Emma Coronel is the focus of the MTV-style music video for the song “La Señora,” which tells her life story and is sung by Mariel Colón Miró, also known as La Abogada (The Lawyer).

U.S.-born Coronel was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021 after pleading guilty to three counts of helping her husband's Mexico-based Sinaloa drug cartel, including conspiracy to launder money and distribute illegal drugs and engaging in financial dealings.

She was released from a halfway house on September 13, 2023, while her drug lord husband continues to serve a life sentence of over 30 years in the federal supermax prison in Colorado.

After spending two and a half years in prison, Coronel has decided to live her life to the fullest – but not everyone is thrilled with her new personality.

One shocked viewer said: “Is this a paid mention or just free advertising for the drug trade?”

In the video she can be seen as a member of the “special cast” alongside the lawyer and now actor Miró.

Miró was part of the legal team that represented El Chapo in his fight against the U.S. justice system, and also represented Coronel and even the late pedophile multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

In the video, Coronel swaps her dark black hair for luscious blonde locks and wears a bright red pantsuit that shows off her ample chest.

She and Miró drive around in a big black Cadillac Escalade SUV and stop at what looks like a business meeting place filled with men smoking cigars.

While she speaks to them in the background, Miró sings passionately, accompanied by a band.

At one point, Coronel jumps on a horse while wearing dark jeans, a white button-down shirt and vest, and a large black cowboy hat.

The friends then make their way to a luxurious home while walking around a large built-in pool.

Before the song was released, the friends promoted it on Despierta América (Wake Up, America), a popular radio station for Latinos in the United States, according to El Pais.

In an interview with Maria Antonieta Collins, Coronel did not talk about her criminal husband or her connection to the notorious cartel, but instead focused on her new business venture.

When Collins asked if she was afraid of entering the industry, El Chapo's wife made it clear that she was looking forward to her new beginning.

“Well, it's like everything else, isn't it? Everything has bad consequences, everything has good consequences, and at the end of the day something always comes of it. So why not do something that benefits me?

“Because I consider it a good thing. They hired me as a model for my friend's project and that was my song.”

Immediately after her release in 2023, it didn't take long for Coronel to return to the nightlife she had missed, as she was seen making her way into an LA club.

During the party, which was also hosted by Miró, Coronel wore white jeans, a light brown vest, short black boots and long black hair.

She was seen dancing the night away with her friends, celebrating her release.

Guzman was extradited from Mexico to the United States in 2017 and convicted in July 2019.

He will spend the rest of his life in the notorious ADX Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado, widely considered the most secure prison in the world.

During her trial, prosecutors and defense attorneys said Coronel was not involved in the core business of Guzmán's Sinaloa cartel, which smuggled hundreds of tons of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and other drugs into the United States.

“The defendant’s actual role was minimal,” said prosecutor Anthony Nardozzi.

“The defendant was not a leader, organizer, boss or other manager,” said Nardozzi. “Instead, she was a cog in the machine of a criminal organization.”

Coronel, who facilitated Guzmán's spectacular escape from a Mexican prison in 2015, regularly attended her husband's trial in New York.

As a dual U.S.-Mexican citizen, Coronel was able to move freely in and out of the United States until she was arrested at Dulles International Airport outside Washington in February 2021.

Coronel ultimately pleaded guilty to several federal drug charges.

This included conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.

According to Telemundo, she had already asked for forgiveness during the verdict.

The mother vowed that she would teach her daughters right from wrong and said, “I beg you, do not allow them to grow up without the presence of a mother.”

She admitted to helping him smuggle at least 450 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of heroin and nearly 90,000 kilograms of marijuana into the United States over several years.

She also helped her husband escape from a Mexican maximum security prison in 2015.

Guzmán, then head of Mexico's Sinaloa cartel, was captured and returned to prison before his wife again planned his escape in 2017.

He was convicted in the United States in 2019 of continuing criminal association and other charges related to the distribution of tons of cocaine.

The notorious drug cartel boss is serving a life sentence plus 30 years for the charges. He has since attempted to appeal the verdict.

Coronel was transferred to a halfway house in Long Beach, California, prior to her release from a federal prison in Texas.

After his extradition to the United States, she showed unwavering support for him, telling the New York Times in 2019 that she “did not know her husband as the person they want to portray him as.”

She added: “But I admire him more as the person I met and married.”

Coronel was a fixture at her husband's trial and was regularly surrounded by television cameras and members of the press.

She is now on probation for the next four years.
