New Delhi [India]September 1 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a telephonic conversation with Indian athletes who have won a medal so far in the ongoing Paralympics in Paris.

The athletes included bronze medalists Mona Agarwal, Preeti Pal and Rubina Francis and silver medalist Manish Narwal.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated all the winners and said they had made the country proud with their achievement.

Prime Minister Modi also wished gold medallist Avani Lekhara all the best in her further endeavours at the Games. She was unable to participate in the teleconference due to her participation in a sporting event at the Paralympics.

At the last Paralympics, India’s shooting team finished the campaign with five medals.

During the conversation, Manish stressed that the aim of the shooters is to improve their record and return with seven medals.

So far, India has won four medals in shooting with Mona, Preeti and Rubina winning a bronze medal each. While Lekhara won a historic gold for India in shooting.

Mona won the bronze medal in the women's 10m air rifle shooting final. In the same competition, reigning Paralympic champion Lekhara defended her gold medal by finishing on top of the podium.

The two Indians finished in the top three positions and were aiming for gold. However, in the women's 10m air rifle shooting final, Lekhra secured first place.

Lekhra dominated the women's 10m air rifle shooting final to secure the first place with a personal best score of 249.7 points.
