Mangaluru: Child abducted from Padil area rescued within 2 hours; accused arrested

Mangalore, September 1: In a swift operation, Kankanady town police solved a kidnapping case within two hours after a two-and-a-half-year-old child was abducted near the Forest Department Botanical Garden at Alape by Padil in the town. The incident took place on the evening of August 31.

The child, a girl, was said to be walking outside the Forest Department building when the accused, identified as Aneesh Kumar, abducted her. According to police, Kumar, who had a fight with his family in his hometown and left for Mumbai on August 28, had alighted from a train in Goa and avoided a connecting train to Mumbai. He later travelled to Mangaluru and abducted the girl on seeing her as he wanted a daughter.

After receiving the complaint, the police immediately registered the case and started an investigation. It was learnt that the accused had boarded a train travelling from Mangaluru Junction to Kasargod. The Kankanady town police, under the leadership of PSI Shivakumar K, immediately informed the Kasargod railway police. The team quickly coordinated its work with the railway police, rushed to Kasargod and successfully arrested the accused. The kidnapped child was safely rescued and returned to his parents.

Aneesh Kumar, 49, a native of Kandathil, Muthuvayal, Tatapilly, Paravur Post, Ernakulam district, Kerala, was later produced before the court which remanded him in judicial custody.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Anupam Agarwal, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City, under the guidance of Siddharth Goel, Dinesh Kumar, DCP (Crime and Traffic), and Dhanya Nayak, ACP (South Division). The team from Kankanady Town police station led by Inspector TD Nagaraj comprised PSI Shivakumar, ASI Ashok and Officers Ashith D'Souza, Kushal Hegde, Raghavendra and Pooja who were instrumental in the speedy resolution of the case.
