Peaky Blinders Movie Release Date: Peaky Blinders Movie: When will it be in theaters and will Cillian Murphy return? Release Date, Cast and More

For television fans, few upcoming films have generated as much excitement as the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders. After months of speculation, Netflix officially confirmed in June 2024 that the film had been greenlit, much to the delight of fans.

The film features Oscar winner Cillian Murphy returning in his iconic role as Tommy Shelby and promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in the Birmingham gangster saga, according to a report in Radio Times.

Star-studded cast joins the troupe

In July, exciting news broke that Mission: Impossible star Rebecca Ferguson would be joining the cast of the Peaky Blinders movie. While details about her character remain under wraps, her inclusion has only increased anticipation for the film.

But the excitement wasn't over yet – in August it was confirmed that Saltburn star Barry Keoghan would also be part of the ensemble and would take on an as yet unspecified role.

Murphy expressed his excitement at re-teaming with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and director Tom Harper on the project. “It's really pleasing to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again,” Murphy said, describing the film as “one for the fans.” Knight added: “I'm really excited that this film is about to be made. It's going to be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. There are no taboos. Peaky Blinders at war.”

A long-awaited continuation of the storyThe concept of a Peaky Blinders film has been in the works since before the television series ended with its sixth season in 2022. Knight has long expressed his desire to continue the story with a feature film rather than a seventh season. Speaking to The Mirror, Knight highlighted the creative opportunities offered by a film format, explaining: “The biggest difference between a film and a TV series is the budget. When you do things for TV, you often have to ask people to imagine it. But with a film, you can really do that. You can blow things up.”

Fans are now wondering what explosive moments and big-screen experiences they can expect in the upcoming film. Speculation that Tommy Shelby could rival James Bond in the big-screen format only adds to the excitement. “We've always seen Peaky as very cinematic, so we're finally finding a canvas big enough for what we want to do,” Knight noted.

Speculations about release date and cast details

Despite the excitement, fans will have to wait a little longer to see the Peaky Blinders movie. As of now, there is no confirmed release date, but reports suggest that production is set to begin later this year. This timeline suggests that the film is unlikely to hit theaters until late 2025, according to the Radio Times report.

Netflix's confirmation of the film came via Twitter (which has since been renamed “X”) with a tantalizing post that read: “Thomas Shelby returns. A Peaky Blinders movie starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix,” accompanied by a photo of the script.
