Three people arrested in connection with the murder of former Pune city councillor – The Week

Pune, Sept 2 (PTI) – Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of former Pune Municipal Councillor Vanraj Andekar after he was shot at and attacked with sharp weapons the previous day, police said on Monday.
Police suspect that a relative of Andekar, who is in his late 30s, staged the attack during an ongoing dispute.
Andekar was a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (undivided) before the Pune Municipal Corporation was brought under state administration.
A group of eight to nine people came on motorcycles and attacked Andekar in the Nana Peth area around 9.30 pm on Sunday. Some shots were allegedly fired at Andekar. He was also attacked with sharp weapons on his neck and head, an official said.
Two suspects were nabbed by local police and another by the crime branch, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Patil.
“Witnesses claim that some shots were fired but Andekar died of injuries to his head and neck caused by sharp weapons. An empty cartridge case was found in the dead man's clothes,” Patil added.
Andekar's family members filed a complaint because they suspected a relative was behind the attack.
“They have named nine individuals and five others in the FIR,” Patil said, adding that family members of the deceased suspect the role of a relative in staging the attack due to an ongoing dispute.
Further investigations are ongoing.
