Former NFL star: 49ers shootout with Ricky Pearsall is “another lesson”

Former NFL star Chad Ochocinco Johnson said Saturday night that there was “another lesson” to be learned from the shooting that injured San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall.

The 17-year-old allegedly tried to snatch Pearsall's Rolex as he was on his way to a book signing. Pearsall's mother Erin wrote on Facebook that the bullet went through his chest and exited through his back without hitting any vital organs. Pearsall was released from the hospital on Sunday.

Ochocinco and Shannon Sharpe spoke about the Pearsall shooting after it was first reported on Nightcap. The former Cincinnati Bengals star said there was another takeaway from the shooting.

“There's another lesson to be learned from this: Nothing is worth your life,” the former wide receiver said. “You can buy another Rolex. If someone tries to take your car, you can buy another car.”

Sharpe asked Ochocinco if he would give up a material possession even if the robber did not have a weapon. Ochocinco said he still tries his best to avoid further incidents.

“I know what you mean, Ocho. You're right. You're 1,000% right. I was in that situation. But I didn't turn around. I just believed him,” Sharpe explained.

49ERS' RICKY PEARSALL RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL AFTER SHOOTING DURING ROBBERY ATTEMPT

Pearsall, 23, was walking alone shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time when a suspect attempted to rob him with a gun in the Union Square area, officials said. San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said more than one shot was fired.

“A struggle ensued between Mr. Pearsall and the suspect, and shots from the suspect's weapon struck both Mr. Pearsall and the suspect.”

The gun allegedly belonged to the suspect and was confiscated. Scott said investigators believe the teenager acted alone. There is no evidence that Pearsall was the target of the attack because he is a football player.

Pearsall was drafted in the first round by the 49ers in April. He missed some time during training camp due to some lingering injuries.
