BJP workers protest in Siliguri over rape and murder of a doctor and demand resignation of Prime Minister Mamata

Darjeeling (West Bengal) [India]September 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Monday staged protest rallies outside the SDO office in Siliguri demanding justice for the victim of a rape and murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. They also demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

A BJP protester told ANI that the party plans to protest outside every polling station in Bengal on September 4.

A protesting BJP worker told ANI, “There has been no security for women in West Bengal since the Chief Minister came to power. We demand justice in the RG Kar case and the resignation of the Chief Minister. We will protest outside every block office in Bengal on September 4 and conduct a chakka jam (road blockade) on September 6 from 12 noon to 2 pm.” Earlier today, junior doctors protested in Kolkata demanding the immediate resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal in connection with the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case.

In Alipurduar, BJP workers protested against the incident, after which the police used water cannon to disperse the crowd.

In the Alipore district of Calcutta, BJP workers also protested in front of the DM office and demanded action in connection with the rape and murder case.

These protests come amid widespread outrage over the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The junior doctor was found dead in the hospital's seminar room on August 9.

In several states, doctors have held protests demanding justice for the victims and increased safety measures for medical personnel.

The incident sparked a war of words between the BJP and the state government, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Following an order by the Calcutta High Court, the case was handed over by the local police to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Sanjoy Roy, a volunteer at the hospital, was arrested in connection with the incident. (ANI)
