Attack in Chemnitz: Duo seriously injures man

Chemnitz- On Sunday evening, there was an altercation between three men in the Chemnitz Center. A man (33) was seriously injured.

The incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. on Brückenstrasse near the Karl Marx Memorial.

After a witness called the police, the first emergency services found a seriously injured man (33) on the scene. The Nigerian was taken to hospital after receiving first aid.

“Through questioning, it emerged that the 33-year-old had been standing in front of the monument and had been suddenly attacked by two men he knew,” police said.

“One of the men is said to have held the victim and beaten him. His accomplice also stabbed the 33-year-old with an object. Both attackers then fled.”

Officers from the Operational Task Force (OEG) were able to arrest a suspected perpetrator (17) shortly afterwards in Georgstrasse. The intoxicated Somali is suspected of having inflicted the stab wounds on the 33-year-old. The emergency services were also able to confiscate the suspected means of committing the crime, a broken bottle.

The youth was temporarily arrested and then released after police action on the orders of the Chemnitz public prosecutor. He and his still unknown accomplices are being investigated on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
