Duchess Meghan suffered from her appearance in high school

Meghan Markle (43) is considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. But apparently the American was not always happy with her appearance.

In a conversation with comedian Mindy Kaling (45) in her podcast “Archetypes,” Meghan openly reveals details about her formative school years. The Duchess hinted that she suffered because of her appearance as a child and teenager. She even called herself an “ugly duckling.”

According to Meghan Markle, her appearance was far from any conventional beauty norm, characterized by frizzy, curly hair and a noticeable gap between her teeth.

During her time at school, Meghan not only felt uncomfortable on the outside but also isolated on the inside. She admitted that she often felt alone and insecure.

Meghan characterized herself as reserved and described herself in the podcast as a “loner.” She found no place where she belonged, was always labeled as the “smart one,” and felt largely alienated from the social structures of her peer group.

Meghan managed to develop a strategy out of her feelings of isolation. The former “Suits” actress took matters into her own hands and assumed leadership roles in various school clubs. She became president of the multicultural club, the senior class and the French club.

Meghan's attempts to fit in were viewed as artificial by some of her classmates, as authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand revealed in their book Finding Freedom.
